Motorhome or Campervan?

Motorhome or Campervan?

A motorhome offers more space and fixed comforts: standing height, a permanent bathroom with toilet and shower, a full kitchen, and usually a fixed double bed. It's ideal for longer trips, families, or anyone who wants independence on the road. In contrast, a compact campervan like the VW California is more agile, fuel-efficient, and easier to park, perfect for solo travelers, couples, and spontaneous short trips. At myvanture, you get both with the same premium quality.

What does a motorhome offer?

Comfort that travels with you.

More space, a fixed bathroom, a full kitchen, and heating for any season. That's what sets a motorhome apart from a compact campervan.

Standing height & fixed bathroom

You can stand upright in the living area and have a fixed bathroom with a shower and toilet on board. No more searching for facilities at the campsite.

Full kitchen

Two-burner gas hob, sink, and fridge with freezer compartment. Cook just like you would at home, even if it's raining outside.

Onboard heating

The Knaus Tourer Van and Van Wave have independent diesel auxiliary heating, while the VW Grand California uses a Truma heater with gas or electricity. This keeps you cozy and warm even in winter. Please note, these vehicles do not have air conditioning.

Fixed beds

In the Van Wave and Grand California, you'll enjoy a permanent double bed – no need for daily setup and pack-down each evening.

Storage & rear garage

The large rear garage in the Van Wave is 2.05 m long and can swallow bikes and bulky equipment. No need for an external bike rack.

Class B driver's license

All three motorhomes remain under 3.5 t total permissible weight. Your standard car driver's license is all you need; no extra license is required.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently Asked Questions about Motorhome Rentals

  • How much does it cost to rent a motorhome?
The rental price depends on the model, season, and duration of your trip. You can see the current daily price for your chosen period transparently in the booking system. Unlimited kilometers and basic comprehensive insurance are always included. Plus, you'll get long-term discounts for rentals of seven nights or more.
  • Which campervan is suitable for families?
For families, we recommend the Knaus Van Wave: four sleeping berths, fixed beds, two seats with ISOFIX, and a large rear garage for strollers, bikes, and luggage. The VW Grand California is also family-friendly with its rear bed and pop-top bed. The compact Knaus Tourer Van is a great fit for couples or small families.
  • What kind of heating do the campervans have?
The Knaus Tourer Van and Knaus Van Wave have a diesel auxiliary heater, which heats independently of shore power. The VW Grand California uses a Truma heater, running on gas or electricity. This keeps you warm even on chilly nights. The vehicles do not have a stationary air conditioning unit; the AC only runs while driving, just like in a car.
  • How many sleeping berths do the campervans have?
All three campervans offer up to four sleeping berths. In the Van Wave and Grand California, you'll sleep in fixed beds, while in the Tourer Van, the lower bed is set up in the evening.
  • Do the campervans have a WC and a shower?
Yes. The Knaus Tourer Van, Knaus Van Wave, and VW Grand California all have a full bathroom with a shower and WC on board. The Grand California also includes an outdoor shower.
  • Which campervan has the most space and storage?
At 7 meters long, the Knaus Van Wave is our most spacious motorhome, offering more interior room than the Grand California. Its large rear garage (2.05 m long) can even fit bicycles, so you won't need a bike rack.
  • What's the difference between the Knaus Tourer Van and the Van Wave?
The Tourer Van is more compact and agile at 5.9 meters, and its lower bed needs to be set up in the evening. The Van Wave is longer at 7 meters, features fixed beds, and has a large rear garage. For four adults with lots of luggage, the Van Wave is the more comfortable choice.
  • Can I go winter camping in the motorhome?
Yes! The Knaus Van Wave and the VW Grand California are designed for winter camping. Both can be heated, so you can hit the road even in the colder months.
  • Are the motorhomes automatic?
Yes, all three models come with automatic transmissions. The Tourer Van and Van Wave feature a DSG gearbox, while the Grand California has an 8-speed automatic. You'll enjoy a relaxed drive with no clutch pedal.
  • What driver's license do I need for a motorhome?
A standard Class B car driver's license is all you need for all myvanture motorhomes. Our vehicles are under 3.5 tons maximum permissible weight, so no special license is required.
  • Are mileage and insurance included with the motorhome?
Yes. Unlimited mileage and a basic comprehensive insurance policy (2,500 € deductible) are included in the price, along with the Europe-wide VW mobility guarantee. You can optionally reduce the deductible.
  • Can I bring my dog in the motorhome?
Yes! With our dog-friendly camper service, your dog is welcome aboard. Simply add the service when you book your trip.
  • Where can I pick up my motorhome?
At all 12 myvanture stations across Austria, Germany, and South Tyrol. Returns are always made at the pick-up station.
  • What's the difference between a motorhome and a campervan?
A motorhome offers standing height, a fixed bathroom with toilet and shower, and a full kitchen, making it ideal for longer, more comfortable trips. A campervan, like the VW California, is more compact, agile, and fuel-efficient, better suited for solo travelers, couples, and shorter trips.
