Renting a Campervan or a Motorhome: We're here to help!
Campervan vs. Motorhome: We've summarized the pros and cons of both types of RVs.
To ensure you feel completely comfortable on your first camper rental and choose the best fit for your needs, we'll help you find the right RV with a few tips. A motorhome or a campervan? What are the differences between these two vehicle types? We've summarized some pros and cons of both.

What's the difference?
Campervans
If you're looking for a compact, agile vehicle with camping equipment, suitable for two to four people, a campervan will make you very happy. Some campervan models, like the VW Coast, have storage space for clothes and dishes. To gain comfortable standing height, you can easily push the upper bed up into the vehicle's interior. Fold-down seats and pop-up roofs serve as sleeping areas. Our VW Multivan foregoes additional interior fittings but excels in its simplicity. Meanwhile, our VW Coast shines with its versatility, offering a kitchenette, outdoor shower, and four sleeping berths.
Panel Vans
With a panel van, the entire transporter is converted into a motorhome. Our VW Grand California, based on the VW Crafter, not only boasts four sleeping berths, a kitchenette including a fridge, but also enables luxury camping with its own bathroom, including a shower and toilet.
Motorhomes
Motorhomes are divided into groups based on their conversion type. There are alcove, semi-integrated, and fully integrated motorhomes. Semi-integrated motorhomes retain the complete driver's cab of the base vehicle. In contrast, with fully integrated motorhomes, the base vehicle is significantly modified. The wheel arches, bulkhead, and dashboard remain original, but the driver's cab is optimized for camping.
Which RV type is right for you?
Campervans and Panel Vans
Campervans and panel vans are ideal for singles, couples, families with children, or dog owners who value flexibility and easy handling. Compared to motorhomes, there's less storage space, but the maneuverability, fuel efficiency, and everyday usability of campervans and panel vans are unbeatable. Our panel van, the VW Grand California, in particular, offers absolute camping comfort with its standing height, four sleeping berths, kitchenette, and bathroom including a shower and toilet.
Motorhomes
Motorhomes are ideal for families or groups of up to six people. The extra length and width provide a comfortable sense of space. The bathroom offers plenty of room to move, and more elaborate meals can be prepared in the kitchen. Disadvantages of these vehicle types include their higher fuel consumption, purchase and maintenance costs, and limited visibility and maneuverability. Therefore, such RVs are only conditionally suitable for solo travelers, as an assisting person should always be present to guide.
Renting a Campervan or a Motorhome?
These points need to be clarified:
- How many seats/sleeping berths are needed?
- How important is vehicle length/height to me?
- Does the RV need to be agile and suitable for everyday use?
- What is my travel budget for fuel costs?
- Is a bathroom including a shower and toilet a #musthave?
- Would I need a kitchen?
- How much storage space will I need?
On one hand, you need to be sure what you expect from your future RV, and on the other hand, you need to be able to afford the pleasure. Therefore, we recommend a self-test. Then you'll know whether you should ultimately rent a campervan or buy one rent a campervan or a motorhome?.
