How do golf and camping work together?
Golf trips with prosecco for breakfast and relaxing in the spa after an 18-hole round can absolutely be combined with a camping trip! With a campervan or motorhome, you're not tied to a single hotel or resort. You can stay as long as you like. As soon as a bad weather front appears, you can simply move on!
Who is a golf trip suitable for?
You don't have to be a pro to go on a golf trip. Many golf clubs offer beginner courses or individual lessons, as well as courses with varying difficulty levels. A family holiday is not incompatible with golf and camping! There are numerous campsites and golf courses with children's programs and playgrounds. Even traveling with your dog is no problem. Some golf resorts and clubs have specific rules or fees if you want to bring your dog. Make sure to check before you arrive so you're not caught off guard.
Best time to travel for golf and camping?
Most golf clubs in Austria are closed during the winter months. We recommend taking your golf trip from spring to summer. Even on hot summer days, some golf clubs offer indoor pools or are located right next to a swimming lake. Mornings or afternoons are also great for lessons.
Preparing for golf and camping
We've listed the things you shouldn't forget on a golf trip here. If you do happen to leave something at home, you can usually borrow or buy items at most golf clubs.
- Club set, club bag & rain cover
- Headcovers
- Golf balls & tees
- Pitchfork
- Ball retriever
- Rangefinder
- Golf clothing: socks, shoes, gloves
- Headwear, sunscreen, towel
- Golf club ID
In addition to golf equipment, there's also plenty to consider for camping.
Which campervan is right for golf and camping?
Especially for an active holiday, choosing your travel companion is very important! How many people will be traveling with you? How bulky is your luggage or golf bags? Do you want to be able to travel self-sufficiently, or will you mainly stay at campsites with sanitary facilities? We've already written another article that goes into more detail and helps you decide which campervan is right for you.

Itinerary: Golf Tour Austria
- Donnerskirchen
- Waldviertel
- Wels
- Fuschlsee
- Zillertal
- Bludenz
- Wörthersee
Donnerskirchen
We start our golf trip in Burgenland, Austria. Our first stop is in Donnerskirchen on Lake Neusiedl at the Golfclub Neusiedlersee-Donnerskirchen. With constant wind and many water hazards, the 18-hole, PAR-72 championship course is a sporting challenge.
Waldviertel
Before we continued to Lower Austria, we made a stop on the southern outskirts of Vienna. Nestled in a varied garden landscape, you'll find the 18-hole golf course, Golf & Country Club Brunn. Before playing, we quickly dipped into the wellness area. Deeply relaxed, we finished our game and ended the day at the restaurant.
After leaving Vienna behind, we drove on towards Waldviertel in Lower Austria. Golfing amidst the Waldviertel hills between forests, streams, ponds, and blooming poppy fields. We played our next round between narrow streams and idyllic natural ponds on the 18-hole championship course at Diamond Club Ottenstein.
Wels
Our next tee-off was in Upper Austria at the 18-hole Golfplatz GC Herzog Tassilo. Variety, perfectly maintained fairways, attractive packages for beginners, and the golf club's own restaurant convinced us!
Just a few minutes from Linz, but far from the hustle and bustle. Our next stop was at Golfclub Sterngartl. The friendly staff and a well-maintained course in the heart of the Mühlviertel, plus the on-site restaurant, make this golf club one of our favorites!
Fuschlsee
From Upper Austria, we continued to the beautiful lake valley of Salzburg. Our first stop was directly on Lake Fuschl. There we visited the Golfanlage Schloss Fuschl. We tried the so-called SeeRoas: You play 9 holes at Golfclub Schloss Fuschl and then another 9 holes at Golfclub Waldhof. The transfer from one golf club to the other is by a small boat and is included in the price. That's what we call golfing surrounded by nature! We became big fans of it. Next to Lake Fuschl is Lake Mondsee, and thus our next golf club. The course at Golfclub Mondsee is a big challenge for many. The four different tee boxes of the 18 uniformly flat holes of the golf club offer every golfer an equally appealing and challenging round. While golf beginners can expect good scores from the front tees, top players from the championship tee can showcase all their golfing skills to earn a birdie.
Zillertal
Our golf trip continues to Tyrol. Challenging courses with Alpine panoramas, refreshing drinks at the clubhouse, and dogs are also allowed on the course: The Golfclub Zillertal-Uderns impressed us greatly.
Every golfer's heart beats faster here: The 18-hole championship course is set against the mountain backdrop of the Zillertal Alps and offers numerous practice facilities with covered driving ranges, a short game area, a golf school, and much more.
At Golfclub Zillertal-Uderns, free courses are offered for dogs. Your four-legged friend playfully learns not to chase golf balls, and we learned some helpful tips. Simply great! Haven't had enough of golf and camping in Tyrol yet? Here are two more golf clubs we can recommend: GC Kitzbüheler Alpen, Golfclub Seefeld
Bludenz
From Tyrol, we drove on to Vorarlberg. In one word: "Wow!" Here, golfing pleasure meets an Alpine backdrop. The 18-hole Golfplatz Bludenz Braz is located between the town of Bludenz and the entrance to the Klostertal. The modern golf facility with 18 teeing grounds, 6 of which are on the roof of the driving range, a pitching area, putting green, and schools with beginner courses, is an ideal place for newcomers.
After golfing, we indulged in culinary delights on the panoramic terrace at the clubhouse. Besides Campingplatz Nenzing, this was one of the most beautiful campsites we visited.
Wörthersee
After the beautiful mountain landscape in Vorarlberg, we wanted to spend the remaining summer days by the Carinthian lakes. Directly on Lake Wörthersee in Dellach, we found an 18-hole golf course with a picturesque view of the lake.
A few minutes' drive from Lake Wörthersee is Golfclub Schloss Finkenstein. The 18-hole panoramic course offers plenty of challenges for beginners and pros alike. The golf course is easily accessible on foot with minimal elevation changes. The views of the Dobratsch and Mittagskogel mountains, as well as the pond landscape, enhance the atmospheric experience on the course.
