  • Zell am See
  • Wake Stall

Lake Neusiedl

The first few days of our holiday at Lake Neusiedl and wakeboarding were quite action-packed and tiring. At the Königsdorf Natural Swimming Lake, we wanted to take it a bit easier. The lake is nestled in untouched nature and sparkles with emerald green water. The SUP Center Königsdorf also offers guided stand-up paddling tours. We had never paddled upright before but quickly got into the rhythm. Did you know that SUP is a joint-friendly full-body workout? You absolutely have to try it! We started our summer trip in Podersdorf am See on the shores of Lake Neusiedl. This freshwater lake in Burgenland offers numerous activities for visitors, including swimming, windsurfing, sailing, and kitesurfing. The beaches around the lake are ideal for a family holiday, and there are several campsites that are perfect as a base for activities. Don't forget the Neusiedler See National Park. Here you'll find events focused on birdwatching and tours for all ages.

Wakeground

Always wanted to learn wakeboarding? Then Wakeground in Burgenland is the place for you. Wakeboarding is by no means a matter of age; it can be fun for the whole family. The area is just an hour's drive from Lake Neusiedl. Whether it's a single lesson or multi-day courses, you can jump in here – depending on your riding skills!

Königsdorf Natural Swimming Lake

Basecamp Salzatal

Enough lazing around! We drove on to Upper Styria and finally wanted to try rafting. Basecamp Salzatal offers not only rafting but also canyoning, kayaking, and SUP tours! Perfect for water lovers like us. Whether with family, a solo tour, or special offers. We checked the official website and were thrilled by the adventure! We highly recommend rafting through the Gesäuse National Park in Styria!

Lake Attersee

Lake Attersee is also a very popular destination for water sports enthusiasts. The campsite is located directly on the lake and offers many activities such as diving, surfing, or SUP tours. At Wake The Lake, we even got to try wakesurfing. Never heard of it? You surf behind the boat on a constant wave. Almost like being at the sea – summer holiday feeling guaranteed!

If you're looking for a change from water sports, you've come to the right place. Golf courses, via ferratas, or mountain bike trails – you'll get your fill of sports here!

Lake Pillersee

In the Kitzbühel Alps, we found our next destination for this summer trip through Austria. Lake Pillersee is a beautiful mountain lake and offers many water sports activities such as kayaking, SUP, or swimming. Our campsite was a bit further from Lake Pillersee, but it won us over with its spacious children's playground and the panoramic pool with wellness facilities.

Zell am See

The best time of year is summer. You have much longer days and can experience so much more. Zell am See is nestled between mountains, a lake, and a glacier. Lake Zell is also a popular destination for water sports enthusiasts and our next stop. The campsite is located directly on the lake with its own beach and offers SUP, kayak, sailing, and windsurfing courses.

The town of Zell am See is also worth a visit. On the shores of Lake Zell, in the immediate vicinity of the Kitzsteinhorn glacier and at the foot of the Schmittenhöhe. Zell am See is not only a natural area near the lake and mountains but also a luxurious shopping destination with culinary delights. Let yourself be enchanted by the flair of the town and enjoy relaxed summer evenings.

Wake Stall

Want to work on your wakeboarding skills again and meet cool new people? Then you should check out Wake Stall. The wakeboard park is located on Lake Gößnitzsee near Stall in the Mölltal in Carinthia. Summer, sun, and fun! We stayed a bit further away in our campervan at Seecamping Müller am Weissensee.

Lake Weissensee

Lake Weissensee is the ideal place for athletes and connoisseurs. In addition to SUP, kayaking, and sailing tours, you can also go mountain biking around this beautiful Alpine lake. In the region around the lake, there are numerous marked hiking trails ranging from 930 to over 2,300 meters above sea level. If you prefer a more leisurely pace, you can take the summer mountain railway to higher-altitude hikes.

Lake Wörthersee

Lake Wörthersee is one of the most famous lakes in Austria. Summer means relaxing by the lake, enjoying the sun, and cooling off with a swim on hot days! Our campsite was right by the Wörthersee lido – an ideal starting point for water sports activities and bike tours around the lake. With our SUP, we found some secluded spots and could thus escape the crowds at the lidos.

Conclusion: Summer in Austria

This summer, we had a wonderful camping trip through Austria. We stayed at great campsites and experienced plenty of action and adventure along the way! If you're planning your summer holiday in spring, you should consider Austria. Sometimes, you don't have to sit in the car for hours to surf in Portugal. You can also surf in Austria's lakes if you know how! We hope we could inspire you with our campervan trip.
