Tyrol is the ultimate destination for winter holiday fun. Skiing, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing are just a few of the many activities you can enjoy in this region.

But even if you're not a winter sports enthusiast, a summer holiday by the crystal-clear lakes nestled at the foot of the mountains is absolutely worth it.

Why is a holiday in Tyrol so worthwhile?

The answer is simple: the region offers something for everyone, no matter their interests. Whether you're looking for winter sports thrills, want to enjoy a family holiday, or simply wish to relax amidst nature, Tyrol delivers.

A holiday in Tyrol is incredibly diverse. One day you could be hitting the slopes of a world-class ski resort, hiking, or mountain biking, and the next you could be visiting a thermal spa or enjoying a day at Achensee lake.

There's also plenty of culture to discover, including medieval villages, numerous museums, and vibrant Christmas markets.

A holiday in Tyrol is always an excellent choice.

What does a holiday in Tyrol look like?

Winter Holiday in Tyrol

The Tyrolean Alps are picturesque ski havens with over 100 ski resorts and approximately 4,000 kilometres of slopes. In Tyrol's glacier ski resorts, you can even ski all year round.

Tyrol's ski resorts cater to both beginners and pros. There are numerous opportunities to learn the sport from scratch, as well as plenty of challenging runs for experienced skiers.

But Tyrol isn't just a fantastic holiday destination because of its amazing ski resorts. You can also enjoy activities like snowshoeing, sledding, ski touring, cross-country skiing, thermal spa visits, and horse-drawn carriage rides.

And don't forget to explore the city of Innsbruck and its Christmas markets.

Summer Holiday in Tyrol

In summer, the mountain lakes invite you to swim, surf, and dive. Achensee – also known as the "Tyrolean Sea" – boasts excellent water quality and is often praised for its clarity and purity.

But above all, Tyrol is perfect for a hiking or cycling holiday. There are over 900 kilometres of cycling and hiking trails of all difficulty levels, allowing you to explore the surroundings at your leisure.

Tyrol is also ideal for climbing enthusiasts, offering numerous via ferratas and climbing routes.

Tobogganing in Tyrol isn't just for winter. The summer toboggan runs wind down steep mountain slopes through picturesque alpine scenery. A real hit for all ages!

Cultural Holiday in Tyrol

Tyrol isn't just a wonderful holiday region for active travellers; it also has a rich cultural offering. Discover historic buildings like the Golden Roof in Innsbruck or visit fairytale castles and fortresses such as the medieval Kufstein Fortress.

The Swarovski Crystal Worlds are also well worth seeing, and at the Alpenzoo Innsbruck, you can observe cute snow hares, marmots, and wild wolves.

Where to go on holiday in Tyrol?

Tyrol is rich in famous names and renowned destinations. Here are a few of our favourite spots.

Elbigenalp

The charming municipality of Elbigenalp in the Lechtal valley is the perfect starting point for a winter holiday in Tyrol. In the Lechtal Nature Park region, you'll find 34 groomed routes in winter, leading across expansive panoramic trails, quiet forest clearings, and icy riverbanks.

You'll discover several alpine pastures and huts ready to welcome you with a warm tiled stove and a hot soup!

A campsite we can recommend is Camping Vorderhornbach. It's beautifully situated by the Hornbach and Lech rivers. From there, the Lechtal and Allgäu Alps are not far away.

St. Anton am Arlberg

St. Anton am Arlberg proudly calls itself the "cradle of alpine skiing." It's no surprise that winter tourism is very strong here. But it's not just a spectacular ski area; culinary delights and culture are also highly valued.

St. Anton is also ideal for a mountain summer. Then it's time again for biking, hiking, and exploring alpine summit experiences.

If you want to start your trip in Tyrol at the end of the season, we highly recommend the legendary event "Der Weiße Rausch" (The White Thrill).

The 4-star campsite "ArlBerglife" leaves nothing to be desired. Dogs are welcome. There's a drying room for wet clothes, a free ski depot, and the cross-country ski trail starts just 5 minutes away.

Sölden

The Ötztal valley is one of Tyrol's most popular holiday regions. The glacier village of Sölden, with its many tourist attractions, events, and modern infrastructure, is a paradise for winter sports enthusiasts.

In summer, Sölden offers plenty of lines, trails, and MTB routes, as well as over 300 km of hiking trails that lead uphill into fascinating mountain worlds over 3,000 metres high. The journey up to the alpine pastures and huts can also be made with the summer cable cars.

For summer and winter activities, Camping Sölden is a great base.

Aqua Dome

Rest days and relaxation are a must! The Aqua Dome is nestled amidst the breathtaking Ötztal nature, surrounded by majestic mountain scenery. It's ideal for a wellness holiday in Tyrol! Look forward to a thermal spa and sauna world of incredible dimension and atmosphere.

Stubaital

The Stubaital is a mecca for winter sports enthusiasts and nature lovers. The valley offers numerous activities and culture to discover. Not only the Stubai Glacier and surrounding mountains impress; the hospitality and traditional cuisine here are enchanting.

If you want to camp on a natural site with spacious pitches, then Camping Stubai is the right choice for you.

The campsite is equipped with a free ski and boot depot and a children's playroom. From the campsite, it's just a few minutes to the nearest supermarket and restaurant.

Villgratental

The Villgratental advertises with the slogan "Come to us, we have nothing." And that's exactly how it is. Nevertheless, the Villgraten Mountains are a magnet for hikers, mountaineers, mountain bikers, and an attraction for ski touring fans.

Even early alpinists and alpine writers appreciated the mountains for their panoramic views of the Grossglockner, Grossvenediger, and the Dolomites UNESCO World Heritage site.

The Villgratental is one of the "Mountaineering Villages." It strongly focuses on local products from the mountains and innovative craftsmanship. And finally, the closeness to its guests is very important and made possible by manageable accommodation options.

A campsite with a cosy atmosphere and surrounded by the Dolomites is the Amlacher Hof in East Tyrol.

Kitzbühel

Kitzbühel is a holiday paradise in the Kitzbühel Alps. The town and its surroundings offer an almost inexhaustible range of activities: skiing, cross-country skiing, ski touring, tobogganing, sledding, hiking, cycling, wellness, golfing, and much more.

A highlight: Camping Seiseralm with its incredible mountain views.

Wilder Kaiser

The Wilder Kaiser-Brixental holiday region in Tyrol is one of Austria's most beautiful holiday regions. The mountains, valleys, and picturesque towns invite you to a diverse holiday.

In addition, the Brixental offers a variety of outdoor activities. Mountain sports, canyoning and rafting, ice skating, curling, golf, climbing, horse riding, paragliding, cross-country skiing, and swimming are some of these activities.

A good starting point for activities and a pitch for your holiday is Camping "Wiesenhof Kaisercamp".

Innsbruck

In addition to its breathtaking mountain scenery, Tyrol also has a lot to offer culturally, especially in the provincial capital Innsbruck. With over 130,000 inhabitants, it is also Tyrol's largest city and an important economic hub.

The Golden Roof, St. James's Cathedral, and the Hofburg with the Hofkirche are worth seeing for visitors.

The city centre is medieval in character, and many of the buildings date back to the 15th century. Innsbruck is also considered very musical and offers a number of festivals, such as the Ambras Castle Concerts.

On a nice day, a stroll along the Inn River, which gave the city its name, is highly recommended.

Which campervan is perfect for a holiday in Tyrol?

Do you want to spend your holiday in Tyrol and rent a campervan? Are you wondering which camper is best suited for your trip to Tyrol? We're here to help!

Winter

Remember that during winter camping, almost everything happens inside the campervan or motorhome. For the truly hardy, showering with an outdoor shower like on the VW Coast might not be an issue, but for many, it could be a deal-breaker.

In this case, the Grand California is ideal. It's equipped with a wet room, toilet, a living area with a table and kitchenette, and sleeping berths.

Thanks to the vehicle height of the VW Grand California, standing upright is also easily possible for people over 1.80 cm tall. During hours of snowfall, staying in the motorhome is also very cosy. Thanks to the auxiliary heater, you can warm up and prepare for skiing.

Summer

In summer, it's not absolutely necessary to have a wet room in the camper. Here you're a bit more flexible, and the choice of camper depends on your own needs. Before your trip, consider what equipment is important to you.

Conclusion: Holiday in Tyrol

It's not always easy to find the perfect holiday destination, but Tyrol might be exactly what you're looking for. There's something for everyone here, whether it's an active holiday, a wellness retreat, or a city trip. So, what are you waiting for? Pack your bags and head to Tyrol.
