Greece, the land of ancient history, breathtaking landscapes, and culinary delights, was the destination of our exciting road trip. Here are the best tips if you want to travel to Greece by campervan.

With our camper, we wanted the freedom to explore the beauty of this country at our own pace. To kick off this road trip, we decided to make the long drive from Austria to Greece over a few days, then slowly make our way through Greece, Albania, Montenegro, and Croatia over the next month.

The Start of Our Campervan Trip to Greece

After two days on the road, we finally reached our destination on the third day: Greece. The drive was exhausting, but the thought of the upcoming time in this beautiful country kept us going. Arriving in the evening, we were lucky to find a small spot on the beach where we could stay for the night.

It was a secluded place where we didn't encounter anyone else. The peace and quiet were simply incredible.

Since we arrived so late, we didn't have much time to explore the surroundings or do any other activities. For us, the priority was to recharge our energy for the days ahead.

It felt almost like a new beginning, which is why I call this "Day Zero" – the start of our adventure in Greece.

The camping coordinates for this idyllic spot on the beach were 40.1945530, 22.5741031.

Hike to Mount Olympus

Our first stop in Greece took us to the summit of Mount Olympus. We headed to Priónia, a place where you can park your vehicle and start the hike from there.

We hiked for three and a half hours to the Spilios Agapitos (Zolotas) Refuge, where we stayed overnight.

An overnight stay at the hut cost 18 euros per person per night. It's advisable to bring a lightweight sleeping bag or purchase a set of disposable sheets for 9 euros per person.

The hut also offered us a delicious dinner. They were said to be particularly famous for their spaghetti bolognese.

On the second day, we woke up early and began our hike to Skala Peak, the third-highest point of Mount Olympus.

Since we were there in May, ascending the highest peak wasn't safe due to the remaining snow and slippery rocks. Skala, however, was about a two-hour walk from the hut and rewarded us with a breathtaking 360-degree panoramic view.

After our morning hike to Skala Peak, we returned to the refuge, enjoyed a delicious lunch, and then made our way back to the vehicle.

Meteora

After a drive of just over two hours, we finally reached Meteora and found a wonderful wild camping spot by the river, offering a breathtaking view of Meteora's majestic rocks.

The area was large enough to ensure privacy, and there was ample parking space along the route. It was a place where you could fully enjoy the beauty of nature.

The next morning, we set out at sunrise to explore Meteora's fascinating landscape and monasteries.

There are various ways to explore the region, whether by hiking or by driving along the main scenic road, which offers impressive views from different vantage points.

If you wish, you can also visit the monasteries for 3 euros each, which offer a deeper insight into their spiritual history and architecture.

We spent the entire day in the region and were lucky enough to experience the breathtaking sunset from one of the most beautiful viewpoints.

It was an unforgettable moment to end the day in such an impressive setting. For photographers, it also offered the opportunity to capture the beauty of the area in perfect light.

During our stay in the town, we discovered Café Mikio, where we enjoyed delicious food and excellent coffee. It was a pleasant addition to our visit to Meteora and a place we'd gladly recommend.

If you're driving to Greece with a campervan, Meteora is absolutely worth a stop. The unique combination of impressive rocks, spiritual history, and breathtaking views made this place an unforgettable experience.

From Meteora to Delphi

After enjoying the breathtaking sunset in Meteora, we drove into the night towards Delphi and eventually found a small, wild campsite near the town to stay overnight.

The next morning, we set out to explore the ancient ruins of Delphi – a place considered the center of the world in ancient Greece.

For all history enthusiasts, Delphi is an absolute must-see when visiting Greece. The ancient sites and their rich history are fascinating and offer an insight into the past of this influential place.

During our stay in Delphi, we discovered two beautiful spots for wild camping in the region. These places offered an idyllic setting. However, there are also some nice campsites in the area if someone is looking for a more comfortable option.

The coordinates for the first campsite were 38°38'14.0"N 22°23'16.1"E, while the second campsite was at coordinates 38°29'11.7"N 22°28'00.3"E.

Both places were perfectly suited for a restful night under the stars.

Exploring Monemvasia by Campervan in Greece

After an eventful day in Delphi, we took our time driving to the Peloponnese, and our first stop led us to Monemvasia.

We were thrilled to discover a beautiful wild campsite on a picturesque beach, offering a breathtaking view of Monemvasia.

There were already a few other campers there, and it was lovely to spend the night in this special place.

When we woke up the next morning, we set out to explore the castle and the island of Monemvasia.

Monemvasia Castle is a historical gem, offering a rich history and fascinating architecture. It was an unforgettable experience to stroll through the narrow streets and feel the atmosphere of times gone by.

The island of Monemvasia has a lot to offer, and we enjoyed delving into its history while admiring the picturesque beauty of the surroundings.

The campsite was located at coordinates 36°43'42.7"N 23°01'35.2"E. From there, we had a great starting point to explore both the nature and historical treasures of Monemvasia.

Elafonisos

The next day, we made our way to a small island in the south, Elafonisos.

We had already found a wild camping spot on park4night in advance, which offered a breathtaking view of one of the most beautiful beaches.

Elafonisos is known for its stunning beaches, and there are numerous campsites along the coast.

When we visited the island, it wasn't overcrowded yet, but we're sure it can get very busy here during the holiday season.

Elafonisos was definitely one of my favorites during our campervan trip through Greece.

The campsite was located at coordinates 36.4668430, 22.9829364. The crystal-clear water and fine sandy beach made this place a true paradise.

The Breathtaking Mani Coast

Our journey next took us along the Mani coast, where we stopped at a series of breathtaking locations. Each place impressed us in its own way, making this coastline an unforgettable part of our Greek trip.

Our first stop was Alipa Beach, which delighted us with its turquoise waters and golden sandy beach. Here, we could take a refreshing swim and enjoy the sun before continuing our exploration.

Another highlight was the Tenaro Lighthouse, which fascinated us with its picturesque location and spectacular views of the endless sea.

The Diros Caves were another highlight on our route. With their impressive formations and crystal-clear water, they offered us a unique experience.

We were lucky to find a small campsite near the caves, which we discovered on park4night. Although there were many other campers, it was still a beautiful place to spend the night.

Our last stop along the Mani coast was Limeni, a charming small town. Here, we enjoyed the picturesque ambiance, strolled through the narrow streets, and let ourselves be enchanted by the relaxed atmosphere.

The campsite was located at coordinates 36.6409278, 22.3831968.

The Mani coast offers an incredible variety of natural and cultural treasures. I recommend planning at least two days to explore this coastline.

Voidokilia Beach & Oti' Tavern

After our exciting adventure along the Mani coast, we continued our journey west and finally reached the breathtaking Voidokilia Beach – a beach that exceeded all expectations. This place was like a piece of heaven on earth and the perfect spot to spend a day at the beach.

Voidokilia Beach is characterized by its crystal-clear water and fine golden sand. What truly makes this beach special, however, is its shallow water, which also makes it an ideal place for families with children.

The beach is definitely worth a stop if you're driving to Greece with a campervan.

After a wonderful day at the beach, we drove an hour north to have dinner at Oti' Tavern, a wonderful taverna.

The owner of the taverna also offers a great place to stay overnight if someone is looking for accommodation.

The taverna is located near the beach, so we could take a walk on the beach the next morning.

Oti' Tavern is located at coordinates 37.4120545, 21.6693524.

Here, we were greeted not only with delicious food but also with the warm hospitality of the owner. It was a place where we felt welcome and could enjoy the local culinary delights.

Exploring Lefkada by Campervan in Greece

After our time in the Peloponnese, we decided to head north and spend a few days on the beaches of Lefkada.

This island is connected to the mainland by a bridge and delighted us with some of the most beautiful beaches we had ever seen. It also offered wonderful opportunities for wild camping.

We spent several days on the west coast of Lefkada, enjoying camping amidst the breathtaking nature. The island is a popular destination for campers, so many spots were already taken.

Nevertheless, we were lucky to find two beautiful campsites in May. The first place we stayed was easy to reach, but the road there was quite steep.

The second campsite was fantastic, but the way there required driving over sandy ground. It's important to note here that it can be difficult to drive this part of the road in rainy weather. There's no way to turn back until you reach the end.

Therefore, it's advisable to be careful in such conditions, especially if you don't have an off-road vehicle.

However, we were lucky with the weather and had no problems at all. Before the sandy and muddy section of the road, there are many beautiful parking options.

The first campsite we can recommend is at Tsoukalades Beach. Here, we could enjoy the proximity to the sea and camp in an idyllic setting.

Kerentza Beach: An Idyllic Stopover on the Way to Albania

After our time on the beautiful island of Lefkada, we continued our journey north, aiming to reach Albania.

But before we crossed the border the next day, we made one last stop at Kerentza Beach.

This beach offered us a nice place to camp and was a popular stop for travelers either taking a ferry or heading to Albania.

Although our time was limited, we were able to enjoy the charm of Kerentza Beach and its relaxed atmosphere.

It would have been a great place to spend a few days and enjoy the peace and beauty of the beach.

The next morning, after leaving the beach, we made a quick stop at Angelos Bakery, just a 15-minute drive north in Ammoudia.

This charming bakery offered us delicious baked goods and was the perfect place to refuel before continuing our journey to Albania.

The campsite at Kerentza Beach was located at coordinates 39.2143026, 20.4872844.

Our journey along the coasts of Greece was an unforgettable adventure that spoiled us with breathtaking landscapes, historical sites, and idyllic beaches.
